INDUSTRIAL HEAT PUMPS

The field of application of WEISSHAAR heat pumps in industry is manifold.

Advantage

The application range of WEISSHAAR heat pumps in industry is manifold. What all applications have in common is that the use of WEISSHAAR heat pump technology reduces energy consumption and thus saves costs and CO2 emissions to a considerable extent.

How does a WEISSHAAR industrial heat pump work?

The energy efficient principle of heat pumps is based on the fact that only a part of the heat is actually "generated", most of the usable heat is simply "transported" from a low to a higher temperature level.
In general, all heat pumps work on the same principle. In contrast to heat pumps as we know them e.g. from the field of building heating, WEISSHAAR industrial heat pumps are thereby generally designed for higher capacities and in each case individually adapted to the respective task.

Example:

From an upstream process, 5 m³/h of "heated" cooling water at a temperature of 18 °C is available. For another process, 3500 liters of process wash water per hour are required at a temperature level of 60 °C. By means of a heat pump designed for this purpose, the heat is now extracted from the cooling water and cooled back down to the required initial temperature of below 9 °C. The extracted heat is then fed to the process wash water, which is heated from 20 °C to 60 °C in this efficient way.

Before the changeover to heat pump operation, cooling was provided by a "normal" refrigeration system and the wash water was heated using natural gas. With a two-shift operation on 250 days a year, this resulted in costs and CO2 emissions of:

electrical power costs 14.600 € CO2 emission el. power 25,1 t
gas costs 39.400 € CO2 emission gas 60,4 t
costs 54.000 € CO2 emission 85,5 t

By using a WEISSHAAR industrial heat pump, gas could be completely eliminated for this process. In order to achieve the water temperature of 60 °C, the refrigeration system of the heat pump had to be oversized.

For the cooling of the cooling water on one side and the heating of the washing water on the other side, electricity costs and CO2 emissions are now incurred as follows:

  • Electricity costs: 29,500 €
  • CO2 emission electricity: 50.7 t

Due to the conversion to a modern WEISSHAAR industrial heat pump, the following annual savings result:

  • Electricity costs: - 24.500 €
  • CO2 emission electricity: - 34.8 t

And quite incidentally, the incredible amount of 271,200 kWh of energy has been saved. This is not witchcraft, but intelligently applied heat pump technology, because the majority of the energy required for the processes simply has to be transported and not generated.

Perhaps you can also think of a process or application in your field where transporting heat could possibly be worthwhile?
